ICAIR Workshop @ ICRA 2010

Workshop on Interactive Communication for Autonomous Intelligent Robots (ICAIR)

Making robots articulate what they understand, intend, and do.

This workshop aims at bringing together researchers from different fields of robotics who work on robots that communicate. A robot’s internal workings do not have to be identical to the human mind, but in order to communicate with untrained users, their behaviour (verbal and non-verbal) must be meaningful to humans.

Following this motivation, this workshop shall consolidate advances on verbalisationarticulation of internal processings, and multi-modal presentation techniques in robotics to achieve more intuitive and effective HRI.

Papers accepted for submission will be made available before the date of the workshop as PDF online-proceedings from this website.

Two inspiring keynote presentations are intended to provide a broader view on the subject with a focus on why robots need to express their internal processing, assumptions, and expectation in an intuitively comprehensible way.

Full papers are solicited to provide an in-depth view into state-of-the-art solutions on verbalisation and multimodal articulation of such processing. Short position papers will be given the possibility to report on ongoing research issues and late breaking results. A video session featuring interactive robots will conclude the workshop.

This workshop is organized in conjunction with the 2010 IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation (ICRA 2010), Anchorage, Alaska, May 3-8, 2010. The format is a full-day workshop.

The workshop will be held on Friday, May 7, 2010, in Egan Center Lower Level Room 9/10.

The workshop is supported by the EU FP7 ICT Integrating Project CogX – Cognitive Systems that Self-Understand and Self-Extend (FP7-ICT-215181-CogX).
