IEEE Intelligent Systems recently published a special issue on Human-Agent-Robot Teamwork (March/April 2012). The issue focuses on intelligent human-machine collaboration, including the participation of humans as first-class citizens in collaboration with autonomous systems. This would enable autonomous systems not merely to do things for people, but also to work together with people and other systems. In this issue, Kruijff, Janiček and Zender published an article on “Situated Communication for Joint Activity in Human-Robot Teams.” The article describes a framework for spoken dialogue processing in human-robot interaction, illustrated on examples from human-robot teaming for Urban Search & Rescue.
